March 24-26: Beach Hop – Whangamata

Beach Hop offers everything you love about classic cars and caravans – and much more. With three days left there’s car shows, car cruises, Rock ‘n’ Roll dancing, a petrolhead vintage market, engineering nostalgia quiz night, comedy show, a Hop Idol competition and Whangamata is abuzz with entertainment galore at multiple venues.

Saturday, March 25, is the big day in Whangamata – offering a grand parade of cars, main street car show, hotrod show, classic car fair and auction, retro caravan show, bands all over town, the Hop Idol final, retro pin-up show, prizegiving and prize draw. Sunday, March 26, is a nostalgia fair and auto swapmeet, surf fest, top 10 shoot-out, final prizegiving and live music. Details: www.beachhop.co.nz

March 25: Bay of Plenty Championships – Baypark

All of the regular Baypark classes compete for the title of Bay of Plenty Champion. Drivers from around the North Island travel to win the local titles. Classes competing are super saloons, saloons, stock cars, six-shooter wingless sprint cars and mini stocks. The night starts 6.30pm with children’s bouncy castle, face painting, trampolines and more on-site. Details: www.bayparkspeedway.co.nz

April 1-2: 2017 Rotor Vegas Drone Championships

Rotorua’s first National Drone Racing event will have the nation’s top drone-racing pilots take on the 2017 Rotor Vegas Drone Championship. Witness epic head-to-head battles and mid-air collisions as the racers exceed 100km/hr on a professionally-designed course. An event to get your heart racing and the adrenaline pumping. April 1: Nostalgia Drags and Club Championships

Presented by Bay Rodders at the Meremere Dragway is the Nostalgia Drags featuring the World Fuel Altered Challenge is on Sturday with five fuel altereds including Rat Trap from the United States Psycho and Berzerk from Aussie take on New Zealand’s best. Plus the New Zealand Hot Rod Association club championships happen Sunday with the Pre-1949 Hot Rods, Pre-1972 American, Gasser, Flathead and Four-Banger challenges. Details: www.bayrodders.co.nz

April 9: Crank Up Day of vintage machinery – Katikati

Tauranga Vintage Machinery Club’s Crank Up Day on Hot Springs Rd, State Highway 2, will have vintage machinery, vehicles and equipment galore coming to life. Members of other vintage machinery clubs from the Waikato, Hauraki Plains and Rotorua are also expected to take part. The event on Hot Springs Rd, Katikati, runs 10.30am-3pm and will be signposted from State Highway 2.
Admission is by donation.
